Waste Of Space - New Kind Of Sick
![]()
Today, with a sickened feeling in the pit of my stomach, I nominate 19 year old Gary Dean Helms Jr. for admittedly raping is own MOTHER as a way of retaliating against his brother after arguing with him over a girl.
Nuff said.

Of All The Games To Miss

I drove down to Waco Friday night. After my 4 moves in 20 months, all of my fall/winter shoes and sweatshirts ended up at my parent's house.
I thought traffic was a little heavy driving down, but it never occured to me that it was Baylor Homecoming Weekend... some alum I am, huh?
We spent most of yesterday out shopping and running errands and for some reason, I didn't even give a minute's thought to trying to get a ticket to the game.... partly because it was moved to 2pm and I really didn't feel like returning to work on Monday SUNBURNED.
So, as we were at the mall, my dad stopped and looked at the TV that was showing the Tenn/Ark game. They were flashing scores across the bottom of the screen. It showed a familiar site... Baylor was losing... on Homecoming. Big Deal. Kansas was beating Baylor 35-17 and it was already in the 4th quarter.
Baylor has lost every single Homecoming game since 1997. The last time I remember going to a Homecoming game was 1997. That was probably the most memorable Homecoming game ever... because we beat TEXAS 23-21 in the last seconds of the game. Yes, Kami... you heard that right.... Baylor beat Texas... twice, while I was a student there actually.
Anyway, we go on about our day... searching out some finishing touches for my Halloween costume for work and we stop by my grandparent's house for a bit. My grandfather is watching the last of the Tenn/Ark game. I wasn't really paying attention but all of a sudden my dad says, "They Won?"
Yep... Baylor pulled it out. The QB thru 3 TD passes in 9:22 minutes for a comeback victory. The Final Score... 36 - 35.
Baylor is now 4-4 (3-2 in Big XII) and this is the first year in I don't know how many years that they have won 3 conference games... I know that the last time that happened... we were still in the good ole Southwest Conference. They are also .500+ with 8 games completed, a feet which I don't think I've seen in even longer.
Now, I wish I had tickets to next week's game... because the Aggies are headed to Waco... anyone, um.. Football Widow, wanna make a bet?

SPF - Stop The Presses

Yes, Kristine, I'm having a hard time catching a break. As some of you might have noticed, I haven't played SPF since um, yeah.. JUNE.
SPF this week is going to be super easy and... well, Random.
1. The Kitchen Sink

I love my new apartment... I just wish the kitchen was a little bigger. Here's my kitchen sink and countertops.
2. Something you need to fix.

Neither of the cordless headsets for my phone/answering machine and extra base have worked since I moved in August. I guess the batteries died sitting in storage. I can't ever remember to buy new batteries for it when I'm at Target or SatanCo.
3. Something you're going to throw away right after you take the picture of it.

My new favorite Soft Drink... Diet Dr Pepper Berries and Cream. Yes, it's diet. That way I can eat that wonderful little morsel in the gold wrapper. Hershey's Special Dark with Almonds Nuggets.
How about that for easy?
Who's playing this week!?
**Edited to ADD: Work is already crazy this morning. I will come by and visit you all tonight after I drive down to my parent's house.

The Salesman

A young guy from Missouri moves to Florida and goes to a big "everything under one roof" department store looking for a job.
The manager says, "Do you have any sales experience?"
The kid says "Yeah. I was a salesman back in Missouri."
Well, the boss liked the kid and gave him the job. "You start tomorrow.
I'll come down after we close and see how you did."
His first day on the job was rough, but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down. "How many customers bought something from you today?
The kid says "one".
The boss says "Just one? Our sales people average 20 to 30 customers a day. How much was the sale for?"
The kid says $101,237.65."
The boss says "$101,237.65? What the heck did you sell?" The kid says,
"First, I sold him a small fishhook.
Then I sold him a medium fishhook.
Then I sold him a larger fishhook.
Then I sold him a new fishing rod.
Then I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down the coast, so I told him he was going to need a boat, so we went down to the boat department and I sold him a twin engine Chris Craft.
Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4 x 4 Expedition."
The boss said "A guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a BOAT and a TRUCK?"
The kid said "No, the guy came in here to buy Tampons for his wife, and I said, 'Dude, your weekend's shot, you should go fishing.'"

Welfare

A Guy walked into the local welfare office, marched straight up to the counter and said, "Hi. You know, I just HATE drawing welfare. I'd really rather have a job."
The social worker behind the counter said, "Your timing is excellent. We just got a job opening from a very wealthy old man who wants a chauffeur and bodyguard for his beautiful daughter you'll have to drive around in his Mercedes, and he'll supply all of your clothes. Because of the long hours, meals will be provided. You'll be expected to escort the daughter on her overseas holiday trips and you will have to satisfy her sexual urges.
You'll be provided a two-bedroom apartment above the garage. The salary is $200,000 a year."
The guy, wide-eyed, said, "You're bullshittin' me!"
The social worker said, "Yeah, well . . . you started it."

McGraw For President

Tim McGraw says "It's a high calling to serve the community, and if you can do it, I think you should."
He'd also get the vote of those people who could care less about the issues... and who vote for the cutest person on the ballot.

Waste Of Space Monday - Tee Ball Coach
Yes, I know it is Tuesday. Yes, I know I played yesterday. But I heard about this story on the radio this morning and just couldn't wait another week to post about this complete and total WASTE OF SPACE.
![]()
Mark Downs Jr. was a tee-ball coach last year. He was the type of coach that wanted to win at all costs. So what did he do to qualify him for Waste of Space?
He coached in a leaque that mandated that all kids got to play at least 3 innings. He didn't want one particular kid, Harry, to play because he wasn't as good a player as the rest of the kids. So, he paid one of the other kids $25 to throw baseballs at Harry to try to hurt him.
Harry was hit once in the groin, but recovered and his mother wanted him back in the game. So then they threw a 2nd ball at him and it hit him in the ear.
What makes this story even worse... Harry Has Autism, Mild Retardation, and a Speech Impairment.
I heard this morning on KLUV, that he was sentenced to 1 - 6 years in prison. And what really gets me is they were talking about a poll surroundng this incident that resulted in the majority of people saying that the Coach's punishment was too harsh... WTF is wrong with these people?
As Tammy says so frequently, I hate people.

Waste Of Space Monday - Southwest Houston Dentist
![]()
Well, Tammy, who still hates people, and the rest of the group have done such a good job of covering all the WOS stories the past couple of weeks, I haven't had to add my two cents. But today, I have a story that I just needed to post.
Ok, let me set the scene. A responsible parent takes their 2 year old daughter, Jessenia Valles, to the dentist. The parent is not allowed to enter the exam room with Jessenia, but inquires about her daughter on numerous occasions after hearing her baby cry. The dentist and hygenists assure her that Jessenia is fine.
Then a little while later, the nurse walks out the door carrying an UNCONSCIOUS Jessina and walks to the doctor's office next door. An ambulance is called and Jessina is rushed to the hospital...where she is pronounced Dead.
The dentist, Dr. Robert Choy's, only comment is that he doesn't know what happened. To top it off, Choy has been warned in the past by the State Board of Dental Examiners because he wasn't keeping good records. Yep, he got away with a slap on the wrist for that. Now maybe someone will wake up and do something.

Um Yeah... I think I Called This One.

Anyone remember my post on September 21st? The post that only Kami commented on. The post a lot of you probably ignored because it was just obvious I was living up to my Politics and Bitching category.
Well, today I found this... um, video... on Click2Houston which is still where I get most of my news.
What is this video you ask? Its a news report of how gasoline prices are expected to go back up... at least $0.20 a gallon by December. Hmm, how convenient.
Damn politicians.

Happy Boss's Day

We don't do this very often, but today at work we had a potluck for the bosses. Man is there a spread in there. It wasn't very long after I moved into this office, last year's Thanksgiving potluck, that I realized something... I work with a LOT of good cooks.
I'm a total idiot for not bringing my camera with me today.. and you all know the camera on my phone SUCKS. So I will just have to do my best describing the food selection.
We had homemade cinnamon rolls that were still hot from the oven when CB arrived at the office. To complete the breakfast portion of the spread there was a huge fruit basket a cheese cube/veggie and cracker tray and a couple of gallons of milk.
Then came lunch.. and yes, lunch reared it's ugly head about 10:30am. Tortilla Wraps, Ham and Cheese Dip, Pineapple Nut GoatCheese Ball, Crab Pasta Salad, 7 Layer Dip, Salsa and Chips, and something I can only describe as Catalina Dip.
The Catalina Dip looked really interesting, but was AMAZING! It had blackeyed-peas, english peas, red onions, tomatoes, avocado and black olives in a light catalina dressing. Totally not a combination I would have probably dreamed of putting together, but ... I will definitely try to make it at home soon.
Now... it's time for dessert. I have a feeling I am going to be really glad that I brought the extra gallon of milk. Chocolate Pecan Bites, Cookies, Homemade Fudge, Coconut Bars, Chocolate Cupcakes, Banana Pudding & my Spice Glazed Gingerbread Cake.
This sure beats the microwaveable single-serv Hamburger Helper I had stashed in my desk for lunch.

One Way To Ruffle My Feathers

Is to come into a new position and rock the boat.
As I was catching up on some reading today on Facebook, I saw there are a couple of new groups that people are joining. One is called Save The Interlocking BU. Another one is I wear my interlocking BU with pride!
So what is going on here?
Apparently, the new idiot, oops, I mean President of Baylor... Lilley... "is trying to dispose of the interlocking BU symbol, saying that BU is Boston University, not Baylor University. The BU is Baylor's most recognizable symbol, not like the bear logo that changes every few years. This group is for all those who stand by the interlocking BU and won't let it go down without a fight!!"
Also, the interlocking BU is no longer on the university graphics page and word is going around that it will not be allowed on official Baylor apparel, sporting venues or other Baylor novelties. We have this mark federally trademarked...it is ours...BU --------- BU --------- BU !!
I'm seriously going to write a letter to the Office of the President at my dear alma mater and tell them exactly how DUMB this is.
And oh yeah, by the way.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH Sic Em Bears! *Come on, at least score today against those Longhorns... so I'm not laughed out of the neighborhood when I see the Dallas Bitches tomorrow.
UPDATE!!! Well, we lost. Big surprise. But there were some good points. Like how at the end of the first quarter the score was UT 0 Baylor 10. And like how we actually scored in the double digits. We even came close to scoring HALF of what UT did at the end of it all. 63 to 31. Not too shabby. Thanks for not embarassing me too much Bears.

What They Aren't Telling Us

Go ahead. Tell me I'm a pessimist. Tell me I only see the bad. Tell me yesterday's plane crash was a complete and total accident. You know what? I won't believe you.
Yes, it's sad that someone died. Yes, it's sad that more than one person died. What is even sadder is that our government isn't telling us key points to this story to remove all doubt.
You expect me to believe that someone's passport. A piece of paper that should have been in his wallet, in his pants, and him SITTING on it... made it to the ground unburned? Um, yeah, I don't think so.
You expect me to believe that yesterday, being that it was October ELEVENTH, was just a coincidence? HA!
You expect me to believe that there is a good reason behind them scrambling the planes in unnamed cities... even after saying from the get-go that it wasn't terrorism...
You expect me to believe that even a novice pilot like Cory Lidle was... that he didn't know his left from his right and which way to turn when they took off? He's a baseball pitcher for God's sake... he knows which hand is which. Their flight path was in the complete opposite direction from where they went.
You expect me to believe that a sane person, when seeing that they were headed for a building wouldn't call for help or try to maneuver the plane in another direction... that is if he had the controls, or wasn't being TOLD what to do. At first they were saying a distress call was made... then this morning there was a story saying that the FAA was reporting that there wasn't a distress call... and now we can't find that story anywhere... hmm, wonder who told them to take it down?
You expect me to believe that not one channel, news source, tv show, radio station, or website has mentioned anything about WHO the flight instructor was.. other that he's dead? Pending notification of family my ass! Yeah, that's how Cory's dad found out about his death on TV. They aren't mentioning anything about the flight instructor for a reason... and that reason is what they aren't telling us.
In the mean time... Hoffmania.com reported that President Bush was being flown to a classroom in Florida.

Utterly Confused

When I left my Calculus test tonight, I called the guy that sits next to me. He left class about 5 minutes before I did. I had one question.
"How can you make an A on the first test and not know how to do one single thing on the second test?"
Unfortunately, his answer was.... "I was wondering the same thing."

Sad But Anxious

You know those days? The days that you remember something sad occuring on that particular day in years past? The days you tell yourself that you aren't going to be depressed about it this year, but you wake up that morning and can't seem to help it?
October 10th has always been one of those days. Not only did my best friend from elementary school leave us 16 years ago today... another close friend from high school would have been 33 years old today had she not left us 11 years ago next month.
It's not like I'm sitting at my desk bawling my eyes out, but there is just a somber mood in the air today. It took me over an hour to get to work today with all the rain and fog. At 9am it was so dark outside it looked like it was 12 hours later than it was. I am a true believer in the medical studies that say how much we really need the sun for our mental health. Last week, I don't remember seeing the sun much at all.
Monday night I didn't land at Dallas Love Field until after dark. Tuesday night I had class until 830pm. Wednesday I didn't leave work until nearly 9. Thursday, I skipped class, went home with a migraine that hasn't gone away yet and slept for a good 4 hours. I spent most of the weekend in my apartment studying for my 2nd calculus test that I have tonight.
It's supposed to start chilling off this week and I'm so ready for it. I've been wanting and craving soup. I want to make a big pot of soup and have dinner ready when I get home for a few days. I'm ready for Fall. I'm ready for true Football Weather. I'm ready for HALLOWEEN! I'm ready for BlogBlowoutBigD. I'm ready for my best friend and her husband to come up to BigD and visit in a couple of weeks. I'm ready to wake up on a Saturday morning and make a big cup of hot chocolate and have to take a blanket with me in order to sit on the porch. And mostly, I'm ready for a change.
I've finally found an apartment in a community that I feel safe living in, and that is finally feeling a little like home. I haven't truly felt like anywhere was HOME since I sold my house and left smalltown, TX (Houston outskirts) in June 2002. I've been doing some research at night and looking into other ways to change my current situation. I didn't see many prospects, but I'm going to keep looking.
If you live in the area and have any ideas to help me move towards a change, please let me know.

Overheard In The Car

Last night as my best friend, her husband, her mother-in-law and I were in the car on the way to the hotel I was staying at... her MIL, while looking at her cell phone said, "Why is he Tex Mexing me?"
