I Used To Know A Blog
I seem to recall a blog called "Pencils Suck". As I'm sitting here doing my calculus homework, I realize. He was right.

Quotes From Calculus
Prof: Your homework is Section 1 of Chapter 3, Problems 1 - 53 (every other odd), 71 & 75
Student Who Sits Behind Me: Hell, it will be faster to do all of them than to figure out which ones qualify as every other odd.
Ok Then.

$128.69
Are you kidding me?
Good golly-molly, Texas Instruments is proud of themselves.
**EDITED TO ADD**
When I got home last night, I followed the instruction manual... Installed the software on my home computer, pluged in the USB plug. Then I was told I needed to upgrade my Operating System. Half way thru the upgrade it stopped. It wont load the backup, It wont do anything. I paid $128.69 for this?
I see a trip to SatanCo in my future to return it for another one.

The Aftermath
Isn't that a beautiful bruise? That is my left jawbone. And if it looks like it hurts, you are right.
The oral surgeon told my mom, while I was still under general anethesia, that it was going to be harder for me to recover from this surgery because he was unable to give me the cortisone-steroids in the IV during the surgery, or orally afterwards. I had to go and be allergic to cortisone.
Friday, wasn't too bad which was a good thing because we ran around fixing my registration disaster for my calculus class. Saturday, I slept most of the day and was sorta getting tired of being in the house, a place I had been less than 24 hours.
Yesterday, I started feeling really bad. My mom thought it was because I wasn't eating enough to combat all of the medicine I have been taking. Although, it feels like I've eaten more since Friday than I have eaten in a month.
4 Advil every 6 hours staggered with the hydrocodone crap that I'm supposed to be taking every 6 hours (but it makes me sick to my stomach), plus an Amoxicillin. It basically feels like I should be eating 24-7 in order for the medicines to not make me feel all hot, sweaty and nauseous.
My mom started to leave yesterday and made it about 20 miles before the thunderstorms hit and she decided to turn around and come back. She really doesn't like driving in the rain. I'm glad she came back because I felt HORRIBLE last night. And if she had left last night, I wouldn't have been able to sleep with her "magic pillow."
My mom's "magic pillow" was her baby pillow that a family friend gave to her before she was even born. She sleeps with it every night unless my dad or I are sick. The "magic pillow" seems to make everything feel better.
I called in sick today and had planned on working from home. I got a little bit of work done, but not before the nausea set in. I spent most of the day sleeping or watching TV. Everytime I take another pill I get sick to my stomach, but if I don't take the pill my mouth hurts so bad that it makes me nauseous.
My quick little Waste Of Space Nominations
Barbara Walters. Today on The View she actually asked one of their guests... "What is a Credit Score?" That is just proof that that woman has had way too damn much money at her disposal for way too many years.
One of the questions on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" today was:
"Punch Buggy" is a road trip game where participants watch for which type of vehicle.
A Honda Accord
B Toyota Corolla
C Ford Taurus
D Volkwagon Beetle
This goober... uses a lifeline to get to 50/50 and then uses another one to ask the audience. UM? Yeah.
I guess I am going to try to get my act together and try to go to work in the morning. I have class tomorrow night and I still have to spend my lunch hour to go buy a graphing calculator. I hope I'm up to this.

Conversation With My Mother
Well, my mother came up Thursday night to drive me to my oral surgery and spent the weekend with me. Together we have being total bums down to an art.
She just left about 45 minutes ago. About 5 minutes after she left my cell phone rang. And this is the question she called to ask me.
"Can you tell me where a gas station is that doesn't have the umcircumsized nozzles?"
Um, yeah. Ok.

My Kind Of Vacation
I didn't have to go to work today. In fact, I took a Vacation Day. And what did I do with my well-deserved and much-needed Vacation Day?
I had my bottom two wisdom teeth (that we were told were removed back in 1990) taken out, under General Anesthesia I might add. Exactly how I like to spend my "vacations" but since I am out of sick days for the um, year.. I didn't really have a choice.
I got home and my mom called the school because I hadn't been able to register online (and I couldn't quite talk with two big pieces of gauze and a numb bottom jaw & tongue). It kept telling me there was a problem and to call or email, so I would email and they never replied.
It turned out that they had my birthday typed in wrong and that's why it wouldn't let me activate my online account. So then I went to register for the class, and it said... "that class is not offered at that campus".. WTF?
So, long story short... too late... my mom and I ended up having to drive to another campus, register for the correct class & pay, and buy the correct book and workbook (which by the way, both of them and a new backpack combined were cheaper than the book the other campus had me buy), and then come back home. What a way to work off general anesthesia.
Because I wrote a check when I bought that other book, I have to wait 5 business days before I can take them back. I will take them back one day on my lunch hour.
We finally got home and I took a pain pill and passed the hell out. The next thing I knew it was 9pm.
I'm sitting here eating the first thing I have had in 24 hours, tuna helper cheesy noodles, and thinking I'm about ready to go back to sleep. At least I still have Saturday and Sunday of my "vacation." I think I'm going to start studying.

Change Of Plans
One year, seven months and sixteen days ago, I moved to Dallas to fulfill my dream of becoming a chef and going to Culinary School.
One year, eight days ago, I was diagnosed wtih Arnold Chiari, put on a plethora of drugs (up to 18 at one time), and the severe headaches and numbness in my hands that I went to the doctor for intensified.
Ten months ago, I regretfully, had to drop out of culinary school for medical reasons.
I've come to the sad realization that I probably wont ever be able to go back to culinary school because I do not think my body, with the numbness and all, is up to the physical demands of the education & the resulting career.
So, I realized I had to do something. With the current amount of education I have, I am just not able to find employment that will "pay the bills."
So Tuesday night, August 22, 2006... I applied online to the Global MBA Online program at the University of Texas Dallas. This is a MBA with a specialization in both Accouting & Information Technology.
I found out about 3pm yesterday after calling and talking to an advisor that I was missing one prerequisite course and that I will need to take either the GMAT or GRE by November 1st.
Frantically, I tried to find a Calculus class at an area community college to transfer in. I first called Collin County Community College District. I was told to apply online and then come sign a form stating that I had 4 weeks to get my transcript to arrive. I found the course I wanted on their nice little downloadable desktop application.
Then I realized the class was at one of the other branches and thought I would just go there to sign the form after work. It was then I was told that they were 4 weeks backlogged on their online applications because someone had to actually print them out and data entry them into the computer system. Um, YEAH. Isn't that the entire purpose of having an online application in the first place? I think whoever dreamed up this system should be nominated for Waste Of Space Monday.
Then they informed me that both sections of the online class & the only section of the night class were full and closed. Well HECK.
So, then I remember that there is a community college walking distance from my work. I left work and went and attempted to apply & register. They entered my application into the computer but would not allow me to register until they had a copy of my transcript from Baylor.
I had a copy of it at my apartment but they would have been closed before I had a chance to go home and get it and come back. So, I faxed it over this morning. My mother, who is driving up here tonight, is picking up my official transcripts adn bringing them to me so that I can turn them in Monday.
Since I couldn't actually register for the class, and I was already on campus I decided to go ahead to the bookstore and see if I could get the textbook. I bought ONE textbook, ONE workbook, ONE Binder, and one cheap pack of college ruled paper. Can you say $224.16. OUCH!
I called a little while ago and they had entered my transcript and I was eligible to register online. So... starting Tuesday, August 29th... I will be in school again. I am taking one class, at night, two nights a week. And sometime between now and November 1st, I have to take either the GMAT or the GRE.
I'm hoping to start my MBA program in January. Until then, I will be living and breathing Calculus. Anyone have a graphing calculator I can borrow?

I'm Dead
An older couple is lying in bed one morning.
They had just awakened from a good night's sleep.
He takes her hand and she responds, "Don't touch me."
"Why not?" he asked.
She answered, "Because I'm dead."
The husband asked?
"What are you talking about?
We're both lying here in bed together and talking to one another!"
She said, "No, I'm definitely dead."
He insisted, "You are not dead.
What in the world makes you think you're dead?"
"Because I woke up this morning and nothing hurts."

My Apologies In Advance
Tired of constantly being broke, and stuck in an unhappy marriage, a
young husband decided to solve both problems by taking out a large
insurance policy on his wife (with himself as the beneficiary), and
arranging to have her killed.
A "friend of a friend" put him in touch with a nefarious underworld
figure, who went by the name of "Artie."
Artie explained to the husband that his going price for snuffing out a
spouse was $5,000.
The husband said he was willing to pay that amount, but that he
wouldn't have any cash on hand until he could collect his wife's
insurance money.
Artie insisted on being paid SOMETHING up front.
The man opened up his wallet, displaying the single dollar bill that
rested inside.
Artie sighed, rolled his eyes, and reluctantly agreed to accept the
dollar as down payment for the dirty deed.
A few days later, Artie followed the man's wife to the local Safeway
grocery store.
There, he surprised her in the produce department, and proceeded to
strangle her with his gloved hands.
As the poor unsuspecting woman drew her last breath, and slumped to the
floor, the manager of the produce department stumbled unexpectedly onto
the scene.
Unwilling to leave any witnesses behind, Artie had no choice but to
strangle the produce manager as well.
Unknown to Artie, the entire proceedings were captured by hidden
cameras and observed by the store's security guard, who immediately
called the police.
Artie was caught and arrested before he could leave the store.
Under intense questioning at the police station, Artie revealed the
sordid plan, including his financial arrangements with the hapless
husband.
And that is why, the next day in the newspaper, the headline declared,
"ARTIE CHOKES TWO FOR A DOLLAR AT SAFEWAY."

UnPacking Status
*This isn't my apartment, but you get the idea. Pictures will be posted once I'm done unpacking and can find my camera dock.
Well, I had hopes that I would have my apartment all fixed up in time for my birthday, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I should have moved a week earlier so I could have had a dinner party tomorrow night.
I've got less than 24 hours and 2 boxes in the living room that have yet to be unpacked. None of the boxes in the bedroom/office have been unpacked. And, I have 4 wardrobe boxes and 2 dishpack boxes plus a few other odds & ends that need to go back to the storage shed.
I have yet to make it to the grocery store or discount store or drug store, so all of my pots & pans are sitting in the dishwasher waiting for detergent. The box that came from my old apartment labeled "kitchen junk drawer" is open, but instead of being unpacked, it's contents keep growing.
And all my clothes are piled on my bed waiting for me to put them into the closet in my "obsessive compulsive order" Jeans, Shorts, Pants, Pant Suits, Jumpsuits, One Piece Dresses, Two Piece Dresses, etc. And since all of that is on my bed, that means I've been sleeping on the couch the past two nights.
The list of things I need to go buy is growing faster the more I get done. I need a cheap set of chairs and maybe a table for my patio. I need a new floor lamp for the living room since my big one ended up broken during the move. I need to build a shelf in the laundry room (just off the kitchen) for all my cookbooks. I need curtain rods & a rug for the dining room. And most importantly, I need CHOCOLATE.

Traffic, Locked In, Rain, Locked Out, Back Pain, Laundry & More Traffic
Well, that about sums up my weekend. Thursday night there was a massive wreck on 635. They had the freeway shut down and were diverting traffic all over the place. It took me over 2 hours to get home that night. I was supposed to have started packing everything Thursday night, but instead I spent the evening in my car watching the red lights on the car in front of me.
I left work early on Friday so I could get out to theCountry and pack up everything. I got stuck in traffic again and I was losing my temper. I finally made it home and we had just about finished loading the car when the call came in that MRF's car was fixed and we had to go get it. So after an hour-and-a-half break, we finished packing and then went to eat at Waffle House for dinner.
After WaffleHouse we headed to the storage shed. There were a few items we needed Friday night, like towels, sleeping bags & the shower curtain. Our storage shed has an access panel on each side of the gate. We went in, crawled around on top of boxes for a good 45 minutes, loaded the car to the point I was sitting on the sleeping bag (in the drivers seat) and started to leave. This process took about 30 minutes.
First, my key didn't want to go into my ignition on my car. After giggling with it for a little while we finally got the key in and the car started... and while the engine was still running, the keys fell out. I guess I have to go get the ignition switch thingy fixed now. Then we pulled up to the acess panel and I put in the code to leave. The panel came back and said... "Sorry, this area is closed."
After putting the code in about 15 times, honking to try to wake up the lady that lives there and calling the front office, she finally answers the phone. She said... "We're closed, come back tomorrow." I'm like... "I'm not trying to get in, I'm trying to get out. I'm NOT spending the night in here." I guess it's nice that they have a code on the inside so an intruder can't just drive off with all of your stuff, but it sure isn't funny at 11:00pm when you are thinking you are going to have to sleep in your car all night because the gate won't open. She finally walked downstairs to the office to press a button so we could leave.
We then drove to my new place and unloaded the car. And unpacked everything.
Some of you may remember me complaining about all the teddybear stuff in my old apartment. I had bought everything Fingerhut offered in the CountryBear collection when I was 19 and moving out of the dorm and into an apartment. They were cute back then but being that I am going to be 32 in 3 days, I really wanted to get rid of those "kiddie dishes, appliances, trashcans, cupboards, etc."
So, about a week ago I finally bought myself new dishes for my birthday. The new dishes were on clearance at Pier One and 50% off so I stocked up. Because they were on sale, I had to drive to four different Pier One locations to pick up all the pieces we could find in Dallas and then Carrie picked up the salad plates for me down in Houston. I hope to get down there soon to visit and get them, but if not, she said she would bring them with her to Blog Blowout in October. Thanks Again Carrie!
The plates are burgundy, the pasta bowls are terra cota, the salad plates are ivory, the cereal bowls are hunter green, the coffee cups are palm green & the serving bowl is gold. Then I bought all new Tumblers, StemWare, Pitcher, Canisters & Cake Stand to go with my multi-colored new kitchen. I absolutely can't wait until I have everything set up so I can have a dinner party.
About 2:30am, I finally took a break and took a nap in my new garden bath tub. It was so wonderful. After I got out of the tub, MRF took a bath and I started hooking up the computer and the dsl. He came out of the bathroom and said he was hungry and I said, well let me finish this and then we can go find something. Ten minutes later he was asleep, on the floor.
I stayed up till about 4am, and then attempted to create some sort of pallet to sleep on. At 6am, MRF's alarm clock on his cell phone started going off and I started cussing. Then at 7:30am, my alarm started going off. We went and ate breakfast, went and got my dolly from my friends M&S who had borrowed it back in December and then drove out to BFE to pick up the UHaul.
After picking up the UHaul, we met my parents, who had rented an SUV and driven up from TheArmPitOfHell, back at the storage shed, started loading up the UHaul, and reorganizing the stuff that was staying in the storage shed. My dad, wasn't much help while we were at the storage shed because whatever they had for breakfast had disagreed with him. He spent a majority of the time we were there sitting in the car with the AC on high. Afterwards, a quick drive to the combination Shell Station / Subway for lunch and then we drove back to my new place.
On the way back, we got stuck in traffic AGAIN! A pickup truck carrying a horse trailer somehow managed to flip onto it's side and the horses were out in the middle of the freeway. We finally made it to my new apartment about 3:50pm and started unloading my car and the rented SUV. My dad picked up the last box and as I was closing the back door to my car, the sky opened up and we had the best rain I have seen in months. It was so nice to see rain, but humidity following it felt like saran wrap on your skin the minute you walked outside.
The four of us sprawled out all over the living room floor and took a nap while it rained. And then once it stopped we unloaded the UHaul and made sure at least all the furniture was put in it's place. About 7:30pm, it was definitely time for dinner. We drove down the street and found a new restaurant, TinStar. Well, actually, it isn't *new*, but we'd never been there before so it was new to us. Four orders of Chicken Fried Steak with Jalapeno Gravy (although my mom had to send her's back because the gravy was too spicy for her), Mashed Potatoes & Corn on the Cob later... we were stuffed.
A quick trip to CVS Pharmacy for a few necessities and back to the apartment. My parents headed back home and MRF and I decided to go swimming. The pool is right in front of my apartment and it had looked so good all day long, that we were disappointed when the pool gate code wouldn't work. I feel asleep on the couch and after a little while MRF heard people in the pool so he woke me up and we went out and asked them to let us in. Turns out that we were just going to the broken gate, and the other one was working fine.
We only got to stay in the hot tub / pool for about 30 minutes before the maintenance man came and ran us out of there because the pool "closes at 10pm" and when they say it "closes" they mean it. They disable the gate codes and put a chain lock around all the gates. Now, if I had to get locked in somewhere, how come it couldn't have been the swimming pool and not the storage shed?
Sunday morning, we went back to TinStar for breakfast and then returned the UHaul. MRF's back was killing him so we didn't get much unpacked before it was time to drive him back to theCountry. I packed up my laundry (since I currently can't even get to my laundry room for all the boxes) and after a slow, relaxing & delicious dinner at RedLobster, complete with 2 dozen Oysters on the Half Shell & 2 Ultimate Feasts... we drove the rest of the way back home.
This has not been a good month for cars at MRF's work and while we were returning the UHaul yesterday morning, his boss & friend called and asked if he would come stay at their house and drive them to work the next morning. I stayed in theCountry, finished all my laundry for the week, watched FoodNetwork all night and fell asleep on the couch.
This morning, my last morning having to drive the 62-miles from theCountry to work, I got stuck in traffic again. There were two major wrecks on 635, one in each direction, and of course once I passed the West bound wreck we had to slow down again because of all the nit-wits with crooked neck disease that thought it was more important to look at the overturned dumptruck on the East bound side than to actually DRIVE.
In a few hours I will leave work and I will only have to drive 18 miles home instead of 62. I need to run a couple of errands tonight, like Lowe's, HomeDepot, SatanCo (aka MallWart), SuperTarget, the grocery store, the drug store, etc. I don't think much unpacking will actually occur tonight, but we will see. It's only been 3 days but I'm already sick and tired of the sight of corrugated boxes.
My goal is to have everything unpacked before my birthday so that I can go out to dinner Thursday night and not have to worry about that stuff when I get home. But I seriously don't know if I can get it all done that quick.
To add even more work to the task of unpacking, one goober, otherwise known as MRF, was my main helper when I was packing everything up back in May. But, as I realized yesterday... the goober didn't label any of the boxes. So now I get to open up everything and see what's what.
Well, I think this post is probably longer than an entire page, so I guess I can stop rambling now.

Blank Slate
Ok, my blog is not broken.. it's just I hadn't posted anything in FOREVER.
The crappy Verizon Wireless PCI Broadband Aircard I bought when I moved to theCountry crapped out on me last Saturday and I haven't had internet at home in nearly a week. Amazingly I have survived, but that is only because I have been too darn tired to even think about it.
My work has gone crazy. My last two paychecks have had at least 14 hours of Overtime on them. Add that to a 66-mile one-way commute, and yes.. I'm going crazy.
The move to theCountry was only temporary until I could find a place near work, near friends (the DallasBlogClan), that I could afford, that was available, and above all else... didn't look like it had the characteristics of "DaHood" complex I lived in last year.
That being said, I am moving... TOMORROW. I will be about 7 minutes from TheDallasKs, about 10 minutes from MommyMe, and about 15-20 minutes from FootballWidow. I know I will be closer to Buttercup and Cop'sWife, TwoMonkey's, CaroleKat & Rant-n-Ravin and maybe some other DallasBlogClan.. but I'm not sure where they all live to put a minute marker on it.
So... until I get my new stable internet hooked up on Saturday... don't expect to see much more from me. But hopefully things will calm down soon.
I can't wait to start over on a new Blank Slate.
