NOT GUILTY

Today a jury in Houston did the right thing. They found Andrea Yates not guilty by reason of insanity in the drowning of her 5 children. This verdict has slightly renewed my faith in the justice system.
Now, the powers that be need to get their heads out of their rears and put that ASSHOLE ex-husband Rusty Yates in prison for the rest of his life. Cause he is not only the reason his 5 children are dead, but also the reason his ex-wife's life is essentially over as she knew it. He killed her mind and she killed her kids. And he is 100% to blame.
Put him in a bathtub full of water and forget to turn off the faucet.

I've gotta disagree with ya on this one.
I agree he TOO is responsible and he TOO should be accountable but not for murder. It was by her hands that those children died and no one elses. You know her oldest had to fight and I'm sure they cried and pleaded with their mommy to stop. She is insane, she'd have to be. But to say you had no idea of what you were doing when you clearly killed one child and went and got the second one, submerged thier body, laid them on the bed and then went for the next child...you have to know what you're doing. At some point a glimmer of reality has to set in.
I think she should have been convicted of capital murder. I hope that she spends the rest of her days in a mental facility and her punishment is to see her children's faces in the faces of those around her. Then she will truly be insane.
Harsh words? Maybe so. I have no tolerance for people who harm children...

I'm torn on this one. But I do agree with KimmyK. While Rusty does bear a portion of the blame I do not believe that you can hold one person accountable for another's actions. That's just not fair.
She did have to be truly coo coo to do what she did. I cannot fathom hurting my own child, let alone 5 children.
You have to remember it takes 2 to tango and she was a willing participant in the conception of those children. So I don't agree that you can say he did this to her.
But I do think a mental facility is the best place for her.

First of all, Andrea Yates is truly insane. I don't understand people that try to rationalize something that is obviously an irrantional act. She was sick and her husband and her doctors let her down. She in the past tried to commit suicide and her own doctor that released her from his care a couple of weeks before she drowned her kids. His comment on the release form was that he is releasing Andrea altough he believes she is still psychotic. Although I'm sure insurance had something to do with that as well. What kind of doctor in his right mind would let out a woman that he himself says was still psychotic????????
Secondly. Rusty Yates made the family follow this cult like christian religion where females were told to obey their husbands at all times and that women are here on this earth soley to cater to their husband and to have children. You should only homeschool your children and let them only read the bible and follow all the rules of the bible or your children will become homosexual or murderers. So Rusty puts his family in a RV parked it in the driveway of their nice brick house in ClearLake so his family would be close at all times. Imagine a severly ill mother spending all day in an RV with all those children and feeling like she wasn't a good mother and with their preacher saying that if your not a good mother your children would go to hell or become murderers. That is why she drowned them bcs she felt she wasn't a good mother and she didn't want her kids to get the devil in them. I don't think Rusty is 100% responsible but think he contributed to the kids death.
So kimmyk when one of your children becomes mentally ill and does something terrible because no one helped them are you just going to say "oh well mental illness isn't an excuse so good bye you derserve to be in prison for the rest of your life"? But I'm sure since you have support and not mentally ill that you would get them help they need before it gets as bad as Andrea's case. I feel sorry for Andrea bcs she will remember this and will need to be in a mental hospital for the rest of her life.
Just think this could have been prevented if Andrea had received the proper support and care that she was needing.

My problem with this entire story is this:
She is a whack job. She is insane. She is crazy. So why the heck was the 2nd kid ever even born? Not to mention # 3, # 4 & #5.
I am totally against having kids for the sake of having kids. At some point you have to look at quality of life. If you can't take care of the kids... there is many many many times a fate worse than death... it's called life at the hands of an abuser.
Those kids, in my lowly opinion, are better off dead, than living with a whack job mother and a sperm-shooting wreckless loser of a father.
The doctor's told them not to have any more kids. The doctor's put her on medicine that the loser hid from her. There is no "two-to-tango" here. This is all out abuse.
And I think the state should force his new wife to have a hysterectomy and have his dick cut off. That man has no right and no business bringing kids into the world with the pattern of abuse that he has shown, that will no doubt resurface as soon as this whole trial crap is over.
I'm sorry... but the plain and simple truth is... that's why there are abortions. Don't have kids if they are going to be abused.

I agree that Randy is responsible. Didn't we put Manson away for life for the same reason? He brainwashed her and it was his doing that these children died.
I do hope something happens to him.

How did I miss this?
I agree Andrea Yates is where she needs to be and RPF pretty much summed up what I believe.
People are going to have to accept one day that mental illness is a real thing and not something people should just 'deal with'.
We belive in the stockholm syndrome, brainwashing cult leaders but not the fact that a woman suffering severe depression can't go insane after being put in isolated conditions and having no help day in and day out with 5 children? Please.
Her doctor said she shouldn't have any more children after the 4th but Rusty wouldn't hear of it.
Rusty also said that she had filled the tub up once before and didn't know why and that she must have had thoughts about it before. He knew his wife was extremely ill but didn't do anything to take the pressure off of her or to help her.

OK, OK, I have to comment too!
I agree that the husband is also responsible..maybe not 100%, but responsible enough...possibly criminal neglect?
As for the children enduring abuse.. other than the drownings, I wasn't aware of any other abuse on the kids. I do agree that 2,3, and 4 shouldn't have been born because the doctor TOLD them that having children was making Andrea worse.
Finally, I firmly believe that the verdict of Insane was the best one. She is obviously a sick, sick woman. If she had say, drowned her kids in a car she backed into a lake and then lied about them being kidnapped by a black carjacker, I'd be singing a different tune, but this woman calmly drowned her kids in the name of God and then calmly called the police to let them know what she had done.
Now, let me tell you something folks, Living a life in a Mental Hospital is no picnic...the jail inmates I've dealt with go ape-shit if they find out they are going there.
