Guilty Pleasures.
The life of FFTVS, thus far...I saw this on FullOfIt's blog and because I am
apparently a thief I decided to do this. 10 Years Ago:
I had just finished my junior year at Baylor and going to summer school and I
was looking forward to my 21st birthday the next month. I had my own apartment
and a friend of mine, Meenu (who is now an assistant DA in Texas) lived with
me for the summer. I took English 2300 and Computer Science 1340 that summer
and that was the first time in my life I had ever made an A in English. Part
of it also had to do with the fact that the professor let us skip an entire
page of the final exam (our choice) if we had perfect attendance. Since my
summer-roommate and I were in the same class we made sure we both made it to
class everyday. We also became fast friends with the guy who sat next to me,
Peter, and we turned into an inseparable group that summer. His apartment
complex was across the street from mine and the three of us would either take
turns cooking dinner or making our small version of a “potluck.” That was
also the summer that I had my relapse of mono (from the previous January) and
I earned the burn scar on my right arm (that is still there!) when an iron
that I had put UP on a shelf to cool fell down and landed on my bent arm ...
right at my elbow… when I stepped on the cord. This was also the summer of
the last time that I saw one of my best friends from high school, Sarah,
alive. I went to visit her during one of my trips home to Houston that summer
and she passed away that November from a diabetic coma. I still miss her.
This was my entire Honors Computer Science Class my Senior Year of High School.

5 Years Ago:
I had just finished my first year as a high school teacher. I had taught
computer science and webmastering at Sealy High School. It had been less than
a year since I moved everything I owned from "TheArmpitOfHell" to Sealy and bought my first
home. I was in a small but growing minority of single female homeowners. Sealy
decided that they were going to start offering dual credit computer science
thru Blinn Jr College and all of a sudden I was out of a job. I spent the
entire summer looking for a new teaching job. It found that job at Hightower
High School in FortBend ISD, Missouri City, Texas. I was under the crazy
impression that since I got a $8,000 pay raise I could handle driving 56-miles
one-way to work everyday. It was worth it to keep my house. I miss it and I
wish I would have never sold it.
My House In Sealy.
1 Year Ago:
I was living in hell, oops, sorry, I mean "TheArmpitOfHell". I was working as an assistant
manager at McAlister's Deli on I35. Summers at that store are depressingly
slow since most Baylor students go home for the summer. The management team
went thru a pretty big transition that year and out of the 8 managers who
worked there during 2004 only one is still there. One of the 7 other managers
came into our store in June and we hated each other at first but by August we
were great friends and still are. It just goes to show you that first
impressions aren't always correct.
Yesterday:
I left work at 5:45 and went to my Computers In The Food Industry class from
6:30 – 8:30. The first thing the chef talked about was moving our class time
to an earlier time. Because I don't get off work until 5:30 we moved class
to 6. He also told us that we wouldn't have class next Tuesday night, but
instead, next Friday afternoon we are taking a field trip to Ben E Keith and
spending most of the day with the IT department. Sounds like a fun time to me.
After class I went home, ate dinner and decided to go to bed about 10:30. It
was just as I was making this decision that my best friend, Becky, called and
we talked on the phone until 12:45 this morning.
Today:
I left home about ten minutes early and had to go by the school to sign some
form for something for financial aid. I don't know why because last quarter
I didn't have to sign anything but oh well. I got to work at 8:40 and I am
leaving at 2pm to go to the Neurologist and to do the labwork that my
Gynocologist ordered about two weeks ago. After the round of doctors I will
head over to school where I will have Career Development tonight from 6:30 –
9:30. After class I will eat dinner, pack my uniform for class tomorrow night
and then go to bed. Someone remind me to pack my camera in case we bake
something on the first day of baking.
*PS. Now I get to leave at 1:30 because I cant take my lunch. I was going to
make a tuna sandwich and someone stole the can opener from the break room.
Tomorrow:
Tomorrow is my 2nd early day of the week when I have to be at work at 7:30 so
that I can leave at 4:30 and make it to school in time to change into my
uniform and not be late to class. I have Baking from 5:30 – 10:30. Then I
will go home and maybe eat a bowl of cereal for dinner and go to bed.
